When Simba passed away, it was time for Kovu's ascent to the throne. His rite of passage was very different from Simba's. He did not feel able to meet everyone's expectations; he was an outsider after all, and was terrified as he made the slow walk to the end of Pride Rock.

I can see that happening, Kovu ending up doubting himself, thinking that he’s going to be a foolish king like Scar, or he’s going to be a careless king like Simba, but Kiara will keep telling him that he won’t.
